Mobile Aerosol Monitoring System - AMS03 - BITT TECHNOLOGY Mobile Aerosol Monitoring

 

The AMS03 Mobile Aerosol Monitoring System is the smallest device of the Aerosol measuring-systems. It is a further development of the AMS 02 series of BITT Technology.

The AMS03 Mobile Aerosol Monitoring System is measuring permanently and automatically the radioactivity of the aerosols in the environment-air. Both a- and b- activity are measured, furthermore the AMS03 distinguishes between the natural radio-nuclides in the air and a possible artificial a- and b- activity. System-scheme of the AMS03

The AMS03 Mobile Aerosol Monitoring System consists of two units:

The measuring device (collector-unit) and a PC with the AMS03 software (evaluating unit)

Collector-unit:

The collector unit consists of the following parts:

Filter support:

The filter can be put in the measuring position, resp. can be changed very easy. In the measuring position is a glass fibre filter on the sucking side and on the other side an impregnated carbon-filter.

Detector:

The PIPS detector with an active surface of 1700 mm2 is in a distance of 7 mm of the active surface of the filter. The detector supplies online data about the a-b activity.

Detector amplifier with MCA and Interface:

PIPS amplifier + MCA. with RS485/422 Interface, dose rate output for detector monitoring.

Iodine cartridge:

Between the filter and the pump is an offline active charcoal cartridge for collecting the iodine aerosols.

Pump:

For the sucking a maintenance-free vacuum-pump is used. The nominal power of the pump is 6 m3//h. On the air outlet tube is mounted a sound absorber.

Differential gauge and temperature-sensor:

For monitoring and measuring of the air stream a differential gauge and temperature-sensor is used.

Controllers:

Controllers: The unit with state-panel, control-panel and pump controls the differential pressure gauge, the thermometer and the total-cps of the PIPS detector. The unit is connected to the central-PC through a RS485/422 interface.

Evaluating unit:

For the evaluating unit serves an AT compatible PC or a notebook with the following requirements:


Hardware:

  • x86 CPU min. 350MHz
  • 64MB RAM
  • 1GB free HDD capacity
  • RS485 interface or RS232/RS485 Interface
  • NIC with 10/100Mb (optional)[1]
  • Screen resolution 1014x768

Software:

  • Microsoft Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000

Eight collector-units can be controlled at the same time with one evaluating unit. The connection and communication between the evaluating- and collecting- unit is made through a RS422/485 bus-wiring and the RS422/485 protocol.

If the distance between the evaluating- and the collecting unit is more than 1000 m wire-length, a repeater has to be installed on this distance.AMS03-LAN (option)

With this option it is possible to make the data-communication between the collector- and evaluating units through existing Ethernet- Fast Ethernet- wiring.
