BOD SENSOR - SYSTEMS 6 and 10 - VELP

The micro-organisms already present or purposely seeded in a water sample containing biodegradable organic matter, use oxygen for their biochemical processes and produce an equivalent volume of carbon dioxide. If the process develops in a closed system and the carbon dioxide is absorbed by a strong alkali, a progressive decrease of internal pressure can be measured. The standard incubation time at 20C for a reliable measurement of BOD is now universally considered 5 days and the related value is then called BOD5. This corresponds with good reproducibility, considering all the aspects of the technique itself, to 70% of the so called BOD last, that is the value at the complete oxidation, that occurs after a period of 21-28 days.

System 6 and System 10

The BOD Sensor Systems 6 and 10 have been developed by VELP according to international safety rules for workers and environment protection.
An innovative, microprocessor controlled, electronic pressure measuring system (without mercury) allows BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) determinations by manometric technique.
The BOD Sensor Systems 6 and 10 are composed by a 6 or a 10 places stirring group with 6 or 10 BOD Sensor units, 6 or 10 alkaly holders for carbon dioxide absorption, and 6 or 10 stirring bars, offering to users a complete equipment, immediately operative, for measuring BOD values within four scales, up to 90, 250, 600, 999 ppm, or to higher values after dilution.
The epoxy painted stainless steel structure gives to the equipment a strong resistance to chemical corrosion.
The compact design allows the contemporary operation of 6 or 10 BOD bottles in a reduced space.
Two side embedded handles allow an easy introduction or removal of the equipment into/from a refrigerated thermostat also with bottles in place. The robustness of the stirring motor assures a continuous operation without risk of stop or overheating which could alter the results of the BOD determination.
